A One Night Stand at Ranch Motel
It was a cold January evening as I stepped into the historic Ranch Motel—a newly-renovated San Antonio landmark—for their first party, cheekily entitled One Night Stand at Ranch Motel. The reimagined space is a major departure from what was once a run-down lodge in desperate need of some TLC.
As you enter, you're greeted by retro-looking neon lights, beautiful vegetation, and a view of the large heated pool, which sits directly in the center of their courtyard. Their rooms are simple yet elegant, with small touches to elevate the experience, such as a vintage clock radio playing jazz upon entry, or the luxurious Le Labo shower care products stocked in each bathroom. Though the bar is not yet up and running, their outdoor bar area and upstairs mezcal lounge show potential to be a local staple once fully operational.
The event existed not only to showcase the Motel’s rehabilitation, but to also highlight and platform San Antonio’s regional talent. One Night Stand was sponsored by clothing brand Bad USA and Live Oak Vodka. Bad USA utilized the event to release a new collection of merch, ranging from hoodies and beanies to shirts and totes, while Live Oak Vodka served mixed drinks all night to warm up the party-goers. DJs entertained the masses while they sipped wine from Texas-based natural winery Soto Vino or purchased from local vendors like Gigi’s Deli – who rolled out a one-night-only, Taco Bell-inspired menu – and Down Bad, who were serving Cajun-themed entrees. It was a lovely show of community, seeing so many folks from all walks of life coming together to support each other, even in the face of freezing temperatures.
While Ranch Motel is already incredibly promising with its comfortable amenities, there’s still much to look forward to from this revitalized Broadway gem. The location will also be home to their Leisure Club, which is still currently under construction. The club promises a retreat from the hustle and bustle of your day-to-day life, offering pickle ball courts, wellness classes including yoga or pilates, a food truck space, and more. San Antonians can anticipate Ranch Motel and Leisure Club being fully operational around spring break. In the meantime, however, interested parties can book a room now and indulge in this hidden oasis right in the center of the city.
