Fun (and fashion!) in the Sun: A Beach Runway Show
Restaurant Carriqui at the Pearl became a fashion hotspot for the day, hosting the Beach Runway Show, featuring celebrated Puerto Rican designer Stella Nolasco. Highlighting unique and flattering cuts, eye-catching fabrics, and refreshing range of styles, the Summer-minded garments offered a number of highly-chic ways to beat the heat.
Nolasco debuted pieces from multiple new collections, including her Pura Stella and Very Bali line. Scene in SA got an opportunity to speak with Stella for a moment about her process and inspiration.
You’re an artist and a self-professed introvert; how does that inform your design process?
“I use my shows as a platform to let people know about my opinions, my thoughts, and my feelings, so I think it’s perfect to express myself through my art.”
Are you doing head-to-toe looks? Accessories as well?
“Not this time. Sometimes I do headpieces, sometimes I do earrings, but we designed makeup using a beauty look that is really simple, with some shimmer. On this occasion all the hair is pulled back, because my clothes have so many details, and I didn’t want it to compete with that.”
What trend, if any, has caught your eye in the fashion world lately?
“Well, I have a 25-year-long career, you know. I started with sheerness, and I’ve always used laces; I took a break from lace, for like 8 years. So now I’m ready to come back. You’re gonna see maybe one piece that is lace. It’s gonna be the last piece of the show. When I transition to a new style, I end the collection with something that I’m going to continue elaborating on for my following one.
The Beach Runway Show was produced by Mayra Farret, with hair by Trenton Martinez, makeup by Vivienne at FunHaus Beauty and Pearlish Glam by Thais, and the models by dx2 model management.
