Igniting Minds, Inspiring Futures: Angela Pichardo, Outstanding Teacher of the Year
Angela's journey began humbly in Bigfoot, Texas, where she was raised along with her brothers and hardworking parents in ranching and farming—experiences which instilled in her the belief that foresight and hard work pave the path to success. “We always had the mindset that you never know what you’re going to need,” she recalls a philosophy that shapes her resilient approach to challenges and her commitment to preparing her students for a limitless future.
Remembering Vivian
Vivian worked for Scene In SA for over 20 years shooting photos for various fundraisers, staff parties, as well as taking candid photos and portraits. In addition to working for the magazine, she volunteered and took photos for the San Antonio Rodeo, weddings, birthday celebrations, and numerous events, including art gallery openings, holiday parties, VFW events, and Fiesta.

The Voice of the City: A Talk with San Antonio’s Newest Poet Laureate
A poet laureate’s purview, according to the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture website, “is to promote poetry and the literary arts in San Antonio” by “developing innovative and inspiring public events and programs in conjunction with local organizations and the Department of Arts & Culture.” With a number of ongoing initiatives – including his Mouth Dakota Poetry Project at the Dakota East Side Ice House, where participants of all skill ranges are encouraged to take the stage and share their pieces live – and his role as an active educator in the community, he seems particularly well-positioned to hit the ground running.
